The health authorities in Germany reported 8,500 new corona infections to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) within one day.

This is evident from the numbers from Sunday morning, which reflect the status of the RKI dashboard at 5:34 a.m.

For comparison: a week ago the value was 12,656.

On Sunday, the number of cases reported by the RKI is usually lower, among other things because fewer tests are carried out on the weekend.

Due to the public holiday on May 13, it should be noted when interpreting the number of cases that fewer people visit a doctor on public holidays and bridge days, which means that fewer samples are taken and fewer laboratory tests are carried out, according to the RKI's management report on Saturday evening.

"This means that fewer pathogens are reported to the responsible health authorities."

Coburg with the highest incidence in Germany

According to the RKI, the number of new infections reported within seven days per 100,000 inhabitants was 83.1 nationwide on Sunday morning.

The day before it was 87.3, the previous week it was 118.6.

Currently, 347 districts have a high seven-day incidence of over 50.

The seven-day incidence in 141 districts is over 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to the last management report by the RKI, the Coburg district alone had an incidence value of over 250 and was 255 per 100,000 inhabitants.

According to the information, 71 new deaths were recorded across Germany within 24 hours.

A week ago there were 127 dead.

The RKI has counted a total of 3,593,434 detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, however, since many infections are not recognized.

The RKI stated the number of those who had recovered at around 3,286,400.

The number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to 86,096.

According to the RKI situation report on Saturday, the nationwide seven-day R-value was 0.84, the day before it was 0.87.

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 84 more people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.
