As a well-known work, "Camel Xiangzi", which has gone through more than half a century, still attracts generations of audiences. Director Gu Wei believes that it relies on solid characters.

"Mr. Lao She's original work and Mr. Mei Qian's adaptation are too much about characters. These real and rich characters make people believe that they are the people and things of that era."

In Gu Wei's view, this work has a comedy element in the tragedy, and full of warmth in the cruelty, which also meets the aesthetic needs of today's audiences.

"The audience experience is rich, they will be happy and sad with the plot. Because the work can move them, let them get a spiritual shock while watching the story."

From the performance in 2007 to the present, Yu Zhen, who played Xiangzi, has gone through nearly a hundred shows with the role.

The more I walk into the role, the more I feel insignificant. It is Yu Zhen’s awe of the classics. “This play is what we follow from the hands of the older generations. They taught us to act and behave. Shaping Xiangzi is not about how I create. It’s about getting close to the script, putting yourself in the original, really showing the spirit of the original and restoring the classic flavor."

Guo Yijun, who plays Hu Niu, will give more prominence to her Beijing characteristics in portraying her character. "Huniu is a person with a very distinctive personality, who dares to love and hate, is kind and cute, and has selfish calculations. There are old Beijing characters in this play. Local customs also have complaints against that old era. I hope that through the performance of the tragedy of Hu Niu and other people in the play, the audience can see the tragedy of the era.

Jin Han, another actor in the role of Xiangzi, although a newcomer in the crew, does not feel jerky at all in acting this character.

He felt that while he was shaping the role, the role was also helping himself.

"In the study with the predecessors, my artistic accomplishment and cognition of performance have been improved."

  There are newcomers and veterans.

It is not only the characters that move the audience, but also the heritage of the actors.

The veteran artist Wang Deli who is over eighty years old in the play has been portraying the image of Liu Siye on the stage since 2007. His grasp of the role and attitude towards creation have deeply affected every young member of the crew. people.

In addition, Yin Wei who played the second strong son, Zhang Wankun who played the old horse, etc., these "veterans" who have accompanied the role in 2007 to the present, accompany the audience together with their roles on stage, and use offstage kung fu to "pass and help" the young A generation, this is the inheritance behind "Camel Xiangzi", and also Beijing Renyi's attitude towards classics.

"It takes time to maintain the classics," said director Gu Wei.

This round of performances will last until May 30.
