[Explanation] Flying flying clothes, bodhisattva, dancing musical instruments... Zhuang Shengjuan, the non-genetic inheritor of Dunhuang paper-cutting in Jiuquan City, Gansu Province, picks up the scissors in one hand, and the colored paper with the other hand and flips it upside down. Suddenly, pieces of paper flowers fell, and the figures on the Dunhuang frescoes came to life under her.

Zhuang Shengjuan opened a thick stack of paper-cuts, which contained more than a thousand paper-cuts of Dunhuang murals she created. The contents covered the patterns of mosquito wells in the cave, stories from Buddhist scriptures, images of flying to the sky, and so on.

(This is) Jialing Pinga’s play in Cave 61 of Mogao Grottoes. It is very distinctive. Look at the human head and bird body. It has wings. It is the foot of the bird you look at.

The reason for this beauty may be that you think that this is because I used our most traditional paper-cut zigzag pattern and decorated it with feathers.

[Explanation] Dunhuang paper-cutting has a long history. With the precipitation of culture, distinctive Dunhuang characteristics have gradually formed.

Zhuang Shengjuan told reporters that what fascinates her most is the extremely rich changes in the image of the characters in the Dunhuang murals. The size of the outline, the position of the eyes, and every subtle change will make the entire image abruptly different.

For example, the well-known Feitian, the description of it in different dynasties is also very different.

(This) is from the Northern Zhou Dynasty. What you think is different from this flying sky is that this is this kind of gentle and smiling, this kind is relatively rough, its face, eyes, and murals are painted like this, and you look at it You can feel the muscles on the arms, and the toes are relatively rough, including the streamers.

[Explanation] Recently, she completed a work of "Dunhuang Dance Music" that is 1.3 meters long and 0.6 meters wide. This work was completed on a whole piece of paper without any cuts.

In order to make the characters vivid, Zhuang Shengjuan not only studied the manuscripts in his hand over and over again, but also read a lot of books about Dunhuang murals, repeatedly figured out, and combined the "yang cut" and "yin cut" in his creation. Slowly carve small places with a carving knife.

Yang cut it is like the flying sky in the middle part is cut by the sun, and the cut by the Yang cut must be connected with lines, and every line must be connected.

You see, this one is not connected to it a little bit, if you are not connected like here, it will fall, and this cloud will fall.

It's not easy. You can cut this paragraph in an hour.

[Explanation] As long as anyone is willing to ask about the skills of paper-cutting, Zhuang Shengjuan teaches them carefully.

She said that the art of paper-cutting is China’s traditional culture, and Mogao Grottoes is a treasure house of human art. She hopes to teach more students who like Dunhuang paper-cutting so that everyone can love their hometown and spread traditional culture more widely.
