In "Without appointment", on Europe 1, doctor Marc Galiano details the possible interventions in the event of a deficiency of the urinary sphincter.

An artificial sphincter can be fitted, as can strips "to help the natural sphincter block urine during exercise."

A phenomenon that can affect all ages, even if it is common especially in the elderly, urinary incontinence is nonetheless a potential source of discomfort and embarrassment.

But this problem can be treated, especially when it is linked to a deficiency of the urinary sphincter, recalls on Europe 1 doctor Marc Galiano, in

There are several types of urinary incontinence, with first of all those "related to bladder contractions", explains the specialist.

"Very powerfully, we have the urge to go wee, we can't hold back, and we leak urine."

This urinary incontinence can also be linked to "a deficiency of the urinary sphincter".

"In these cases, it is when we make an effort, when we walk, when we cough, when we laugh", specifies Marc Galiano.

"No age limit for an operation"

Depending on the case, "the operations are not the same", recalls the urologist, specifying however that there is "no age limit for this type of operation".

On Europe 1, the latter notably presents the necessary intervention in the case of a deficiency of the urinary sphincter.

"When you have a sphincter contraction deficit or a sphincter that no longer works properly, because you have had prostate surgery or because you are diabetic, in these cases, depending on the importance for urinary incontinence, we offer two types of intervention. Either an artificial sphincter which replaces the natural sphincter, or we can put strips, even balloons, to be able to help the sphincter to block the urine during the efforts. "
