After shooting at a man in Hambühren in the district of Celle, the public prosecutor's office is investigating a 24-year-old police officer.

The Lüneburg public prosecutor announced on Friday that the investigation was on suspicion of attempted manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.

The investigation should show whether the young woman shot in self-defense, but she has not yet said anything.

The 35-year-old was seriously injured and was hospitalized, according to the information, there is no risk to life.

The man is also being investigated - for dangerous bodily harm and assault on police officers.

A witness reported on Thursday morning that the man was tampering with a two-wheeler on a property in Hambühren, the public prosecutor said.

A little later, the witness reported that the man had left the property, was holding a rubber mallet in his hand and looked confused.

Two police officers took on the matter, and according to witnesses, there was an attack on the two women.

Witnesses had described the man as aggressive, said a spokeswoman for the prosecution.

One of the two policewomen finally fired two shots that hit the 35-year-old in the upper body and face.

The two policewomen were also injured - one officer suffered bruises, the other a nasal bone fracture. They were able to leave the hospital after medical treatment. The public prosecutor announced that the exact course of events should be clarified by further interrogations of witnesses.
