Mentalist and YouTuber, Fabien Olicard has just released a new book on manipulation.

Friday in "It feels good" on Europe 1, he illustrated this theme by the in-store sales sector.

"Selling is necessarily manipulation," he said.

But a salesperson can, according to him, "manipulate" with kindness.

"A price of 9.99 euros, we all know that it is 10 euros and yet it will still impact the brain"

"And what is interesting is to say that we know the rules of the game from the start," he continued.

Can we really protect ourselves from these techniques?

"What is funny to see is that it is not," replied the mentalist.

"Even if we know, it works. A price of 9.99 euros, we all know that it is 10 euros and yet it will still impact the brain because we are under the bar of ten."

"If we have a budget of seven euros, we say to ourselves that it is fine and that it is the same," he added.

"Whereas if it had been ten euros all round, we would not have said so."

Salespeople can "manipulate" their customers with kindness

For Fabien Olicard, if the sale includes "a lot of interesting handling techniques to know", a salesman can however "handle" his customer "with kindness".

And this "from two things", he emphasizes: "If he never lies about his intentions and the data in his possession and if he gives the possibility of having free will, it is that is, whether it is easy to say yes or no to him. "

However, he is not sure that the traditional "can I help you" thrown by the salesperson when you enter the store is a good technique, according to him.

"Because suddenly, we are all going to take the free will that we easily have at that moment to say: 'No, I do not need anything and I watch'."
