(Fighting New Coronary Pneumonia) Guangdong's first discovery of a Brazilian mutant of new coronavirus

China News Service, Guangzhou, May 10 (Cai Minjie) A reporter from the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed on the 10th that Guangdong has recently discovered a Brazilian mutant of the new coronavirus for the first time, and this is the fourth time that Guangdong has detected a major international new coronavirus mutant.

On April 15, a 62-year-old male and a 58-year-old female (who are married) arrived in Guangzhou from Canada by plane, and were transferred to the isolation hotel after a nasal swab test.

The nucleic acid tests of the two patients were both positive, and they were transported by ambulance to the Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou City for isolation and treatment on April 16. The 28 close contacts have all received centralized isolation and medical observation.

On April 21, the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention performed virus isolation and gene sequencing analysis after receiving the samples.

On April 30, the sequencing analysis concluded that the two viral genomes belonged to the lineage P.1,20J/501Y.V3, which is the first Brazilian mutant reported in Japan at the end of 2020.

At present, the World Health Organization lists British mutant strains, South African mutant strains, and Brazilian mutant strains as virus variants of high concern, and reports the monitoring of mutant strains weekly.

As of May 4, a total of 142 countries have reported the discovery of mutant strains in the UK, 97 countries have reported the discovery of mutant strains in South Africa, and 56 countries have reported the discovery of mutant strains in Brazil.
