The night-time exit restriction that has been in force in Hamburg for five weeks due to the corona pandemic is to fall.

That said Hamburg's Mayor Peter Tschentscher (SPD) on Friday after a special session of the Senate.

However, the prerequisite is that the seven-day incidence of new corona infections remains stable below 100 on five working days.

On Friday it was 92.3 and thus below the limit for the third day.

The third corona wave has broken, said Tschentscher.

In addition, the daycare centers are to switch from extended emergency operation back to restricted regular operation on May 17th. This then guarantees care for 20 hours on at least three days in any case. So far, the daycare centers are generally closed. Children are only looked after in emergencies. In addition, students of all ages should be allowed to go to school from May 17th on in alternating lessons. According to the school authorities, only around 60 percent of the 200,000 pupils in general education schools are currently allowed to study alternately, around 40 percent study exclusively at home.

The seven-day incidence had increased by 2.8 to 92.3 on Friday compared to the previous day.

A week ago, the health authority put the value at 102.8.

The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) calculates the numbers on a different basis and has been reporting a value of less than 100 for Hamburg for ten days.

On Friday, the RKI named an incidence of 78.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days.

This is still the second lowest value nationwide after Schleswig-Holstein (53.8).
