This Friday, according to data from Public Health France, 5,101 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized in critical care, services that treat the most serious forms of the coronavirus.

This number has been falling fairly steadily since peaking at 6,001 on April 26th.

It was 5,231 on Thursday.

This indicator, monitored very closely by health authorities, had peaked at around 7,000 patients during the first wave of spring 2020.

The figure of daily entries stood at 269 patients on Friday, against 273 the day before.

It fluctuates quite widely, from a high of 673 24-hour admissions recorded on April 7 for the third wave.

But there is still a downward trend.

More than 106,000 deaths since the start of the epidemic

The total number of people hospitalized, with 26,331 patients, is down compared to the previous day (26,985).

Over twenty-four hours, 1,140 people were admitted to hospitals, against 1,551 on Thursday.

The number of patients killed by the disease in one day is stable, with 227 deaths (against 222 Thursday).

Covid-19 has killed 106,130 people since the start of the epidemic last year.

The number of contaminations remains high, with 19,124 new cases recorded in twenty-four hours.

The seven-day positivity rate, which measures the proportion of positive cases to the number of people tested, fell to 6.5% on Friday, from 6.9% on Thursday.

The decline in the indicators is confirmed when we look at the figures over seven days, which give a more reliable trend.

This is the case for the number of hospitalizations, with 8,700 admissions over a week.

This number has been falling steadily since the last peak of 14,715 admissions, recorded on April 13.

Same scenario for the number of intensive care admissions over a week, which is 2,027 on Friday.

Its last peak, with 3,046 admissions, dates back to April 21.

On the vaccination front, nearly 17,500,000 people have received at least one dose and more than 7,600,000 have received two.
