She had been missing since November: A woman from Utah who disappeared without a trace last year has been discovered alive.

The 47-year-old woman survived in a tent at a campsite - and by eating only grass and moss and drinking water from a nearby river for five months.

The woman was reported missing on November 25th, writes the British "Guardian", after employees of the forestry department, who were preparing to close some canyons after the end of the season, found her abandoned car in a parking lot.

The car was parked about 80 kilometers southeast of Salt Lake City.

Emergency services looked for the woman in the weeks that followed, but could not find her.

It was only now in May, during another aerial search and with the help of volunteers, that they discovered the 47-year-old on Sunday, says Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

Crashed drone led to the woman

Curious: They found the woman when they were actually looking for a drone that had crashed during the flight.

They came across a tent that the woman opened as they approached.

"We now believe that she made a knowledgeable choice to stay in the area in the months since November 2020," the sheriff's office said in a statement.

"She had a small amount of food with her and told the officers she was looking for grass and moss to survive."

Cannon said the woman was not physically injured other than appearing weak and emaciated.

It must have been a hard time for her, he said, and he was therefore glad that she was found, Cannon told local broadcaster KSL-TV.

The woman was taken to a hospital.

According to surveys of doctors, she may be struggling with mental health problems.
