The World Health Organization (WHO) and the German government jointly announced on May 5 that the two sides will cooperate to establish a "WHO Epidemiological Information Center" in Berlin.

The center will work with global partners to monitor the risks of infectious diseases and epidemics on a global scale, and help countries prevent and respond.

The two sides hope to build the center into a "global early warning and monitoring system" to help public health experts and policy makers in various countries quickly respond to future public health emergencies.

WHO Director-General Tedros Tedros said on the same day that one of the revelations of the new crown pandemic is that the world needs to significantly improve its data analysis capabilities to help leaders make decisions on public health issues based on adequate information.

"This requires the full use of advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, a combination of multiple data sources, and interdisciplinary cooperation. Higher-quality data and analysis will lead to smarter decisions."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the current epidemic tells people that the epidemic can only be overcome by working together.

She said that the newly established center will become a global pandemic prevention platform, promoting the participation of various institutions from the government, academia and the private sector.

The World Health Organization said that by working with partners around the world, the center will greatly promote the innovation of the WHO and its member countries' epidemic prediction capabilities.

At the same time, the center will also promote cooperation between the global public and private sectors, academic institutions, and international organizations to help all parties better obtain data and information.
