Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and London once again express their condemnation.

On Thursday, May 6, these five European powers called on Israel to stop the construction of new housing in new occupied territories in the West Bank.

In a joint statement issued by their foreign ministries, the five European countries "urge the government of Israel to reverse its decision to proceed with the construction of 540 new housing units in the Har Homa settlement in the occupied West Bank," and to put an end to its policy of expanding settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories ”.

Recalling the illegal nature of the colonies under international law, Paris, Berlin, Madrid, Rome and London add that "if the decision to increase the colonies (...) were implemented, it would further compromise the prospect of a A viable Palestinian state, with Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and the Palestinian state. "

"This decision (...) also undermines efforts to restore confidence between the parties, following the constructive resumption of Israeli-Palestinian cooperation," the statement read, calling on both parties to "refrain from any unilateral initiative".
