A German has been arrested in Mallorca for allegedly faking her death to avoid trial for embezzlement.

The police confirmed a corresponding report in the newspaper "Diario de Mallorca" on Wednesday upon request.

The 47-year-old is suspected of having defrauded her former employer out of one million euros, the newspaper wrote.

When she was supposed to appear at a court hearing in Mallorca last November, her parents announced that she had died in a car accident in Rostock in March and had presented a forged death certificate.

The damaged company, however, questioned the information and hired private detectives.

Based on traces in social media, they came to the conclusion that the woman may have been living under a false identity in Santa Ponça on Mallorca.

Since they knew from photos on the Internet that the woman owned a giant poodle, which is rarely found on the island, they observed the area around the woman's presumed place of residence, as the newspaper reported.

A man who went for a walk with such a dog finally led the detectives to the house of the wanted.

The police were then notified and arrested the woman at home.

In doing so, she admitted her true identity.

She was brought before a judge who released her under certain conditions.
