A day without a midwife.

In a statement, a dozen associations and trade unions call on these health professionals to strike on Wednesday to denounce “unacceptable” working conditions and ask for “more recognition and enhancement of their profession”.

"The crisis we are going through will have more than ever demonstrated that midwives are the great forgotten ones among health professionals", add the signatories of the text who regret having been forgotten "for the endowment in mask", "to realize PCR tests ”,“ to be able to prescribe and perform anti-covid vaccines ”.

Midwives also denounce their level of remuneration.

"For new graduates, the terms of employment are precarious," they stress.

Especially since "outside the structure, some of their acts are not remunerated because no quotation exists".

They add that "for such a level of training and responsibilities, a career development that is limited and not valued when obtaining additional qualifications leads midwives to flee maternity hospitals and to retrain in numbers".

"Strong, concrete measures to stop the bleeding"

“Our maternity hospitals have become factories, where profitability takes precedence over human beings,” they write, stressing that they no longer want to “be complicit in this”.

The midwives, who led days of action on January 26, February 10 and 24, and March 8, expect the government to “take strong, concrete measures to stop the bleeding”.
