[Explanation] Su Shi’s "Ode to Pork" hangs in the pork sales area, the words "radish and cabbage have their own love" beside the vegetable area, and the meat cutting board is engraved with "heart cuts like a knife"... May 4, Sanyuanli, Beijing In the vegetable market, a calligraphy exhibition with the theme "Food for the People" is being held.

From the names of shops to the slogans in the vegetable market, as well as the interesting poems, proverbs, and recipes of Chinese food culture for thousands of years, nearly a hundred calligraphy works fill almost every corner of the market.

[Explanation] Qiu Zhijie, a well-known artist and dean of the School of Experimental Art of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, is the main creator of this exhibition.

He believes that calligraphy originates from life and is created in a vegetable market full of life, with the aim of bringing art back to life.

Calligraphy in history is also a lot of copying books, copying scriptures, writing tombstones, writing plaques, and writing archways on the street.

Then the vegetable market is a very healing place that brings happiness. The life here is full of vitality, with the breath of the ocean and the breath of earth.

I think our calligraphy is the same. To return to its lively place, we have to write advertisements, write rules and regulations, write locks and keys, and write skewers.

Writing these things is where our calligraphy comes in. It's not that it's an art, we can only write ancient poems.

[Explanation] Only love and food cannot be disappointed. They are both in the wine and dare not recall Chengdu... Many short sentences describing contemporary people’s food culture are displayed in unconventional fonts, attracting a large number of young people to stop.

In Qiu Zhijie's view, this is not so much an exhibition as an incident and an action.

Let the traditional beauty of China be seen by more people.

Many of the things that have been widely spread today are these relatively glamorous things, so this kind of clumsy, stupid, and majestic beauty that looks a bit ugly on the surface.

In fact, it is a very precious gift that Chinese painting and Chinese calligraphy contribute to the world. If such things can reach young people and make our young people tasteful, I think this is great.

[Commentary] This exhibition will last from May 1st to 5th, 2021.

While the exhibition is in progress, Qiu Zhijie's creation is also continuing, and there are new works that fit the characteristics of the business almost every day.

For example, the "Finance Grows" on the roller shutter, the signs on the clothes of vendors, etc.

Beef and mutton vendor Aisha told reporters that this was the most interesting and down-to-earth exhibition she saw.

As soon as I entered the door, I said "food is the heaven for the people". I think this sentence is really grounded and very good.

I find it particularly interesting, and I am very infected. I think Chinese characters are really attractive.

[Concurrent] Ms. Song, a grocery shopping person

I think it's interesting to stay here all the time (exhibition works).

It may be the combination of tradition and modernity, and it is no longer the kind of our history. The old-fashioned is actually not the kind that everyone can understand. This kind of form is more acceptable and more willing to understand.

[Commentary] Qiu Zhijie said that this is an experiment with good results.

In the future, he hopes to continue such attempts in different cities and different places.

The future exhibition hall may be various places closely related to life such as temples and restaurants.
