The Sheikh Zayed Book Award announced that it has chosen the German philosopher, Jürgen Habermas, to win the "Cultural Personality of the Year" award, in recognition of his rich intellectual career that extends to more than half a century.

Habermas made qualitative and profound contributions to the field of philosophy, in a way that enriched many disciplines, such as studies of communication and culture, moral theory, linguistics, literary theory, political science, religious studies, theology, and sociology.

Habermas's victory comes in recognition of the prominent position he enjoys as "one of the most influential philosophers in the world" and a pioneer in critical philosophical discourse, in addition to his presence as a teacher of many theorists in political sociology, social theory and social philosophy.

The "Cultural Personality of the Year" award is one of the most important branches of the Sheikh Zayed Book Award, as it is awarded every year to a prominent personality or institution at the Arab or international levels, in appreciation of their contributions to enriching Arab culture creativity or thought, provided that their works or activities embody the values ​​of originality and tolerance. Peaceful coexistence, and has been awarded so far to 14 personalities and institutions from 21 countries from all over the world.

The German philosopher Habermas belongs to the Frankfurt School of Criticism, a school of social theory and critical philosophy founded by a number of thinkers, including: Max Horkheimer, Theodor Adorno and Herbert Marcuse, between the two world wars.
