After the violent death of four people in a dormitory in Potsdam, the district, but also the diaconal institution affected, is in shock.

It was such a great shock, "that has already knocked our legs off," said the theological director of the Oberlinhaus, Matthias Fichtmüller on Thursday.

In the evening a memorial service was to take place in the Oberlinkirche.

A woman was seriously injured in the act of violence on Wednesday evening.

She was found in the facility, as were the four dead.

The scene of the crime was the Thusnelda von Saldern house.

It is part of the Oberlinhaus complex in Potsdam-Babelsberg, a residence for adults with multiple severe disabilities.

"Heavy, external use of force" is how the police describe the cause of death.

What exactly happened to the five people was still unclear several hours after the gruesome find.

According to information from WELT, the murder weapon was a knife, and the police themselves spoke of “severe, external use of force”.

The suspect is a 51-year-old employee of the house, all of her victims were treated in the facility.

Prime Minister Woidke is dismayed

The motives of the alleged perpetrator are currently still completely open.

But one thing is clear: the case is currently the top priority for the Potsdam investigators.

According to WELT information, only those people who are specifically involved with the case have access to files and investigation results.

Brandenburg's Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke was dismayed.

“Terrible news.

I'm shocked, "said the SPD politician on Thursday, according to government spokesman Florian Engels.

"My thoughts go to the victims and my condolences to the relatives." On the private broadcaster BB Radio, he spoke of a horrific and terrible act.

"It's a difficult day for Brandenburg."

Police and prosecutors announced early Thursday morning that the 51-year-old employee, who was an urgent suspect, had been arrested.

It is investigated on suspicion of an intentional homicide.

Further information should not be announced until late afternoon.

“Beyond the content of yesterday evening's press release, there are currently no further findings,” it said on Thursday in a joint press release by the police and the Potsdam public prosecutor's office.

For example, it is still unclear what function the suspect 51-year-old employee actually held.

The exact course of events and the circumstances of the act have not yet been clarified. "At the moment there are extensive securing of evidence," said the investigators. In addition to a clinic, the complex includes daycare centers and schools, workplaces and living areas for people with disabilities and advice centers.
