While one in five French people has received at least one dose of vaccine, many niches remain available in the centers.

Consequently, the executive is considering giving a new boost to the campaign by broadening priority audiences.

More than 14 million French people have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, or about one in five French people.

The objective of 20 million first-time vaccinated by May 15 should therefore be met, barring a disaster.

But in some vaccination centers, people no longer rush to get vaccinated.

Health authorities have only one fear: ending up with unused doses that should be thrown in the trash.

The executive is therefore considering the possibility of expanding the vaccination targets.

More and more niches to fill

According to the latest estimates, there are currently more than 220,000 appointments open in more than 600 vaccination centers across the country. The explanation is first of all mathematical: France has received more and more doses for a few weeks and at the same time, vaccination is progressing strongly in the priority age groups.

Traveling Tuesday afternoon to the Ile-de-France Regional Health Agency, the Minister of Health, Olivier Véran, indicated the procedure to follow to fill these vacant slots.

"The rule is that no dose of vaccine is thrown away. The centers have reminder files of people who have made appointments which may be distant, or of people who are on the waiting list, and especially the most fragile, ”he explained.

"I invite the directors of the centers to contact these files of people to invite them to come and be vaccinated on each vaccination slot available in each center of the national territory," said the minister.

No openness to vaccination for those over 50 before mid-May ... for the moment

But for the moment, it is too early to open vaccination to people over 50, said Olivier Véran.

Which theoretically will be the case from May 15th.

The government is still leaving the door open to broaden the targets to be vaccinated if the number of available slots ever increases in the coming days.

In addition, for people who have already received their two doses, the High Council for Public Health invites them to remove the mask indoors in a private environment.

For the moment, this concerns 5.7 million French people.
