In Germany, between April 12 and April 18, more people died than in the same period of the previous four years.

According to the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden on Tuesday, 19,341 people died in the 15th calendar week.

The number of deaths was four percent above the average for the comparison weeks from 2017 to 2020 and higher than in the previous week.

The number of deaths reported by the Robert Koch Institute in connection with Covid-19 rose slightly for the second time in a row.

According to the RKI, there were 194 corona deaths in the 13th calendar week.

Previously, that number had been falling week after week since the start of the year.

The flu epidemic, which in the past had also been reflected in the total number of deaths, almost failed this season.

Despite the corona pandemic, the number of deaths fell significantly below the average of previous years, especially in March, as the statisticians announced.

After that, the development of the number of deaths again approached the average of the previous years and has now exceeded it.
