Needy families in Germany can hope for a one-off grant of 100 euros per child in autumn, for example for sports or leisure activities.

This bonus is part of the planned Corona catch-up program, announced SPD boss Saskia Esken.

Those who receive benefits from the education and participation package should also be able to receive this grant.

According to Esken, the Corona catch-up program is to be launched this Tuesday in the federal cabinet. Because it always takes a certain amount of time to implement such programs, a payment can be expected in the fall. In May the already decided child bonus 2021 in the amount of 150 euros per child is to be paid out; it goes to children who are entitled to child benefit.

Overall, the catch-up package is intended to support children and young people from disadvantaged families in particular, emphasized Esken.

For this purpose, two billion euros should flow from the federal government and, if possible, further funds from the federal states.

The program should take effect no later than the summer and then in the new school year.

With one billion euros, the catching up of learning backlogs due to the failure of classroom teaching in the pandemic is to be promoted.

Another billion euros should serve to promote development and participation opportunities.

In addition to the leisure bonus, early childhood development, for example in language day care centers, and extracurricular education are to be promoted.

In addition, school social workers, university graduates and volunteers in the social year are to be won over for additional support in schools and child and youth welfare institutions.
