The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, placed the first stone in his qiblah in 622 AD, and he wrote it with his hand upon his arrival to Medina, emigrating from Makkah, as he distinguished it from other mosques by visiting and praying there every Saturday, which is the custom that has remained to this day among the people of Medina. Since its inception, the mosque has received the attention of Muslims, as it was renewed continuously by the successors of the Islamic state throughout the ages, until the last expansions in the era of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Quba Mosque enjoys great care and attention, as it is the largest mosque in Medina after the Noble Sanctuary, and all prayers and Friday and Eid prayers are held in it, and it is also a destination for visitors and residents of Medina, due to the virtue of prayer in it, and the Quba Mosque is located on the migration route linking Makkah Al-Mukarramah And Medina, and is observed from several places in the city, due to its distinctive location and somewhat high.The mosque also received great care during the Saudi era, as it was restored and renewed in the sixties of the last century, during the reign of King Faisal bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and then again in the eighties of the last century, during the reign of King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who ordered its rebuilding and doubling its area. Many times over, while carefully preserving its heritage features, and the expansion extended and rebuilt with the same old design, making it four minarets instead of its only old one, each one on one side.

The mosque was built in the form of a southern portico and a northern colonnade separated by an open yard, and the two porticos are connected east and west by two long arcades, and its surface consists of a group of connected domes of varying sizes, the largest of which are about 25 meters high, while the smaller ones are 20 meters high, and the domes are based on arches. It stands on huge pillars inside each corridor, while the mosque's floor and yard are covered with heat-reflecting marble, and the square is shaded with a mechanical canopy that is made of fiberglass fabric that folds and uniquely as needed, and the mosque has been attached to an office, an area for the residences of imams, muezzins and mosque employees, a market and shops.

Quba was originally the name of a well in which the village was known, which is the dwellings of Bani Amr Ibn Auf. The mosque was called Quba Mosque because the Prophet Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, on his way to Medina, passed by the homes of Bani Amr bin Auf and built a mosque in it, where his camel was blessed and it was called a mosque Qebaa.
