The Algeria Mosque, or also known as the Great Mosque of Algeria, was opened in October of last year, which also coincided with the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday, and on that day the first group prayer was held, represented by the Maghrib and Isha prayers, in the presence of official officials and ministers.

After about seven years of completion, in addition to a year and a half before the opening, and according to the Chinese developer and supervisor of the Chinese State Construction Company, the Great Mosque of Algeria is considered the largest, the largest in the continent of Africa, and the third largest mosque in the world after the Two Holy Mosques, with an area estimated In thousands of hectares, not square meters, and 12 other buildings in different fields and specialties, in addition to the main prayer hall.

Although only the main prayer hall has been opened so far, and Tarawih prayers and qiyaam have not been allowed during this holy month until now, in an attempt to control the effects of the Corona pandemic, this has not prevented the worshipers from going to their Grand Mosque to perform the prayers. The five, enjoying its beauty and its simple and beautiful design at the same time.

In addition to the luxurious and elegant architectural design, the mosque is located in the heart of the Algerian capital, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea in glory, surrounded by gardens of fruit trees, adjacent to the El Harrach Valley, 10 kilometers from the center of the old city, and 11 kilometers from its international airport.

In the middle of the mosque is a huge dome with a diameter of 50 meters, and it is decorated on the inside, while the outside is decorated with ornate mashrabiyas design, and decorated with stones and natural marble, with openings that allow natural lighting to enter the interior of the prayer hall.

The mosque relies on its architectural design on the Andalusian character, and the interior is adorned with Islamic artworks up to six kilometers of beautiful Arabic manuscripts written on marble and wood, while the floor of the prayer hall is covered with a turquoise carpet on the Algerian character with traditional floral patterns.

In addition to the prayer hall, the mosque includes 12 buildings, between a library containing one million books, a conference and lecture hall, a museum of Islamic art and history, in addition to a center for research on the history of Algeria, and a school for teaching the Qur’an.
