How did you feel about the renovation?
Chipperfield:
Although it is a modern building, only fifty years old, and Mies is architecturally close to us, the original project is quite a long way from what we can imagine today. Which architect would get a call from the mayor today who said: Please come and build us an art museum. He says: There is no competition. You can shape it any way you want and get the place you want. You can even design a room that doesn't really work, but we'll build it for you.
