Guest of the morning of Europe 1, Saturday morning, the head of the infectious diseases department of Tenon hospital, Gilles Pialoux, responded to Jean Castex's assertions that "the peak of the third wave of Covid-19 is behind we".

At the hospital, "the tone is not quite the same," he says.

INTERVIEW

France "seems to have passed the peak" of the third wave of Covid-19, with "a real drop in viral circulation for ten days" and the hope of a "reflux within a few days".

This is what Prime Minister Jean Castex said at a press conference on Thursday, announcing in particular the reopening of schools, before that of shops, scheduled for mid-May.

An observation that does not fully share the head of the infectious diseases department of Tenon hospital in Paris, Gilles Pialoux.

Guest of the morning of Europe 1, Saturday morning, the specialist insisted on the hospital tension, still very important according to him.

"We don't seem to be after the peak"

"Friday, we had two crisis units at the level of our hospital and our hospital group, and the tone was not quite the same" as during the speech of the head of government, says Gilles Pialoux.

"We don't seem to be after the peak, first of all because we don't know what's behind it," he warns, referring to "scenarios which show that we could either be on a slowly descending plateau , or downright a real plateau, which is a concern ".

Second warning from the head of department: "The teams are on their knees in the hospital, very clearly".

"To quote just one figure, in Île-de-France, there are still 1,720 patients in intensive care and it has been stable since April 11. So it's not called a peak, it's called a plateau, with very high hospital pressure and uncertainty over the coming weeks, given everything that is happening, including the reopening of schools. "

About this reopening scheduled for Monday with a strict health protocol, Gilles Pialoux denounces "a political decision taken blindly to the circulation of the virus in the school world".

"We have total uncertainty and a lot of warning signals coming from abroad," he said.

"We are in a somewhat complicated world where social life has taken over the defense of the public hospital, and we are very worried."
