The Zaryadye Concert Hall in Moscow hosted an award ceremony for the laureates of the Russian National Theater Award "Golden Mask" for the 2019-2020 season.

Prizes to artists and creators of drama performances were presented by Elizaveta Boyarskaya, Timofey Kulyabin and Vladimir Komlev.

The award in the category "Drama / Large Form Performance" went to the creators of the production "The Tale of the Last Angel" on the stage of the Theater of Nations.

Among the nominees for the award were performances "Peer Gynt" by the Vakhtangov Theater, "Kingdom of Crooked" Tatar Drama Theater, "Petrovs in the Flu" by the Moscow "Gogol Center", "Alamzhi" by the Buryat Drama Theater named after Namsaraev and "Pinocchio.

The award for the performance of the small form was awarded to the production of the Stanislavsky Electrotheatre - Pinocchio.

The best director of the drama was Yuri Butusov, who staged the play "Peer Gynt" at the Vakhtangov Theater.

He won against such directors as Yuri Kvyatkovsky, Andrey Moguchy, Dmitry Krymov and others.

The best female roles, according to the jury, were performed by Anna Antonova in the play "Extremals" and Lyudmila Gavrilova in the production of "The Petrovs in the Flu".

Awards in male nominations went to Timofey Tribuntsev (Boris) and Timofey Mamlin (The Idiot).

Dina Safina was recognized as the playwright of the year, according to the script of which the play "5 mm / h" was staged in the creative laboratory "Ugol".

Alyona Karas and Oleg Lipovetsky presented special prizes to the creators of dramatic performances.

Awards were given to the collective of the play "I Hired a Murderer" at the Sharypov Drama Theater and the Arkhangelsk Musical Theater for the play "North".

Galya Solodovnikova, Maxim Isaev and Pavel Semchenko presented awards to artists of musical and drama theaters.

The winners were artists Stepan Lukyanov (Octavia. Trepanation) and Polina Bakhtina (Skid, Praktika Theater), costume designers Anastasia Nefedova (Pinocchio, Stanislavsky Electrotheatre) and Tatyana Noginova (Bakhchisarai Fountain of Bakhchisarai Samara Opera and Ballet Theater), lighting designers Tatiana Mishina (Mirror, Voronezh Chamber Theater) and Ivan Vinogradov (Petrovs in the Flu).

The part of the ceremony dedicated to the opera was moderated by Bogdan Volkov and Maria Makeeva.

The play "Sadko", which is staged at the Bolshoi Theater, was recognized as the outstanding opera of the year.

The team collected almost all the awards in the category: Dmitry Chernyakov was chosen as the director of the year, and among the singers "Golden Masks" went to Nazhmiddin Mavlyanov and Ekaterina Semenchuk, who play Sadko and Lyubava.

Experts considered Christopher Mulds ("Dido and Aeneas") to be the best conductor.

In the category "Ballet-contemporary dance"

masks were handed out by Anton Pimanov and Elena Tupyseva.

The ballet of the year was the production of Giselle, also presented at the Bolshoi Theater.

The best performance of the genre "modern dance" was recognized as "The Last Tea Party" from the dance company "Project Ksenia Mikheeva".

The work of choreographer Maxim Petrov, who created the play Russian Dead Ends II at the Mariinsky Theater (Sanet Petersburg), was awarded the Golden Mask.

The best roles in dance performances, according to the jury, were performed by Oksana Kardash (Kitri, Don Quixote) and Artemy Belyakov (Count Albert, Giselle).

Prizes for musical performances were presented by Natalia Bystrova and Alexey Frandetti.

The prize in the nomination "Operetta-musical / performance" was received by the production team "Foma" of the Novosibirsk Musical Theater.

Personal "Golden Masks" went to the performers of the main role and the supporting role, Alexander Kryukov and Nikita Vorobyov, respectively.

The best director was chosen Dmitry Belov, who staged the play "Silva" to the music of Imre Kalman at the Yekaterinburg Musical Comedy Theater.

Conductor Dmitry Volosnikov, who is working on this production, also received the award.

The titles of outstanding puppet theater directors were awarded to Aleksey Shulgach and Tatiana Razzhivaykina ("The Mole Who Dreamed of Seeing the Sun", the theatrical corporation "Cat William"). 

For his work on the production "Piebald Dog Running by the Edge of the Sea" (Ryazan Puppet Theater), Viktor Antonov received a prize as an artist.

Olga Dragunova, Anatoly Gushchin and Asya Galimzyanova showed the best actor's work with puppets in the play "Girl with matches" by the St. Petersburg theater Karlsson Haus.

Igor Kostolevsky, President of the Golden Mask Festival and Prize, announced the names of the winners of the award for their outstanding contribution to the development of theatrical art.

Each of the two sections usually has about 15 people.

The winners are determined by secret ballot.

The design of the prize - a mask of the Venetian carnival with a double-headed eagle - was developed by the stage designer, People's Artist of Russia Oleg Sheintsis.

He himself received two awards for the performances "The Seagull" and "The Love for Three Oranges".
