On April 22, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that the Russian military was holding a large-scale cross-service exercise in the Crimea region.

The exercise dispatched more than 10,000 officers and soldiers, including the Southern Military Region, the Black Sea Fleet, the Caspian Fleet, and the Airborne Troops, as well as more than 1,200 military equipment, as well as more than 40 warships and 20 support ships.

Crimea is a strategic place in the Black Sea.

In March 2014, Crimea and Sevastopol held a referendum. More than 90% of the voters agreed to leave Ukraine and join Russia.

Ukraine does not recognize the above-mentioned referendum and opposes the merger of Crimea and Sevastopol into Russia. As a result, Western countries impose economic sanctions on Russia.
