Statistics show that in 2020, the comprehensive reading rate of various media including books, newspapers, and digital publications among adult citizens in my country is 81.3%, the reading rate of national books is 59.5%, and the exposure rate of digital reading methods is 79.4%.

The per capita reading volume of paper books among adult citizens was 4.70, higher than 4.65 in 2019.

The scale of audio reading continues to expand, and more than 30% of adult citizens have the habit of listening to books.

Per capita reading volume of paper books 4.70

  In 2020, the per capita reading volume of paper books for adult citizens in my country is 4.70, higher than 4.65 in 2019.

Per capita e-book reading volume was 3.29, higher than 2.84 in 2019.

  At the same time, 11.6% of the nationals read 10 or more paper books per year, an increase of 0.5% from 11.1% in 2019; 8.5% of the nationals read 10 or more e-books per year, compared with 7.6 in 2019 % Increased by 0.9 percentage points.

  At the same time, the book reading rate and the exposure rate of digital reading methods are on the rise.

In 2020, the reading rate of adult nationals in my country is 59.5%, an increase of 0.2% from 59.3% in 2019; the reading rate of newspapers is 25.5%, which is a 2.1% decrease from 27.6% in 2019; the reading rate of periodicals is 18.7%, This is a decrease of 0.6 percentage point from 19.3% in 2019; the contact rate of digital reading methods (online reading, mobile phone reading, e-reader reading, Pad reading, etc.) is 79.4%, an increase of 0.1 percentage point from 79.3% in 2019 .

  Mobile reading and online reading on the Internet are the main methods of digital reading for adult citizens.

In 2020, 76.7% of adult citizens have read on mobile phones, 71.5% of adult citizens have read online online, 27.2% of adult citizens read on e-readers, and 21.8% of adult citizens use Pad (tablet computer) for digital reading .

  From the perspective of the population distribution characteristics of digital reading methods, the main force is still the 18-49-year-old middle-aged and young people, but it is worth noting that more and more middle-aged and old people aged 50 and above join the digital reading army.

  Among adult digital reading contacts in China, 18-29 year-olds accounted for 31.0%, 30-39 year-olds accounted for 23.2%, 40-49 year-olds accounted for 22.6%, 50-59 year-olds accounted for 15.9%, and 60-70 years old. The population accounted for 5.6%, and the population of 70 years old and above accounted for 1.7%.

Among the groups who have been exposed to digital reading methods, people aged 50 and above accounted for 23.2%, an increase of 2.8 percentage points from 20.4% in 2019.

  In addition, judging from the length of time people have been exposed to different media, adult citizens have the longest mobile phone contact time per day.

In 2020, the average daily mobile phone contact time of my country's adult citizens is 100.75 minutes, which is an increase of 0.34 minutes from 100.41 minutes in 2019.

Among traditional paper media, the average reading time per adult in my country is 20.04 minutes per day in 2020, an increase of 0.35 minutes from 19.69 minutes in 2019.

More than 30% of the people have the habit of listening to books

  From paper books to e-books to "audio reading", from the comparison of several sets of data, which way of reading people prefer now?

  The survey found that in 2020, more than 30% (31.6%) of adult citizens in my country have the habit of listening to books, an increase of 1.3 percentage points from the average level in 2019 (30.3%). The scale of audio reading among adult citizens continues to expand.

  At the same time, the media for listening to books has become increasingly diversified. The proportion of citizens who choose "mobile audio APP platform" to listen to books is relatively high, at 17.5%; 10.8% of people choose to listen to books through the "WeChat Official Account or Mini Program"; 10.4 % Of people choose to listen to books through "smart speakers"; 8.8% and 5.5% of people choose to listen to books through "broadcasting" and "audio reader or voice reading machine" respectively.

  From the perspective of the reading styles of adult citizens, the proportion of adult citizens who tend to "take a paper book to read" has increased.

In 2020, 43.4% of adult citizens tend to "take a paper book to read", an increase of 6.7 percentage points from 36.7% in 2019; 33.4% of citizens tend to "read on mobile phones"; 8.6% Of citizens tend to "read on e-readers"; 7.9% of citizens tend to "read online"; and 6.7% of citizens tend to "listen to books."

  In addition, judging from the evaluation of adult citizens on the overall personal reading situation, nearly 30% (27.7%) of the citizens are satisfied (very satisfied or relatively satisfied) with the overall personal reading situation; 17.1% of the citizens are dissatisfied (relatively dissatisfied or relatively satisfied). The reading rate and reading volume of minors are higher than the previous year

  In the main findings of this national national reading survey, the reading data of minors is also worthy of attention.

  The survey shows that the reading rate and reading volume of children aged 0-17 are higher than those of the previous year.

From the perspective of book reading rate, the book reading rate of children aged 0-17 in my country in 2020 is 83.4%, which is an increase of 0.5% from the 82.9% in 2019.

In terms of book reading volume, the per capita book reading volume of children aged 0-17 in my country is 10.71 books in 2020, an increase of 0.35 books from 10.36 books in 2019.

  Judging from the contact rate of minors' digital reading methods (online reading, mobile phone reading, e-reader reading, Pad reading, etc.), over 70% (72.3%) of minors have been exposed to digital reading.

  In addition, the analysis of early parent-child reading behavior found that in 2020, among families with children aged 0-8, 71.7% of families have the habit of reading with their children, an increase of 1.7 percentage points from 70.0% in 2019.
