Several Heads of State from Central Africa and the Sahel are attending this Friday in Ndjamena the funeral of Idriss Déby, who died suddenly this week after 30 years at the head of Chad.

The former Chadian president had become an essential pawn on the pan-African security scene: the intervention of his armed forces was decisive on several fronts, notably in the Sahel and Lake Chad.

His disappearance plunges several African countries into a period of uncertainty.

Paul-Simon Handy, senior regional advisor at the Dakar Institute for Studies and Security, is RFI's guest.
