A ceremony to reveal the "gender of the fetus" turns into an earthquake warning

After reports of an earthquake emerged, the "gender reveal" party turned into an unexpected disaster, as people heard voices across the state.

The "Guardian" newspaper said that in Kingston, police had received reports of a strong explosion on Tuesday evening.

After responding to the report, the police found in a quarry people who confessed to conducting a party to reveal the gender of a prospective newborn through the use of explosives.

Police said that the source of the explosion was 80 pounds (36 kilograms) of tannery.

She indicated that the family believed that the quarry would be the safest place to ignite explosives, which are usually sold without the need for a specific permission.

NBC 10 Boston reported that nearby residents said the blast shook their homes, and some reported property damage.

"We heard this terrible explosion ... It caused the pictures to fall off the walls," said Sarah Tagleri, who lives in a house next to the quarry.

Sarah's husband Matt indicated that neighbors reported cracks in the foundations of their homes as a result of the explosion.

Police said there were no reports of injuries.

The person who bought the explosives turned himself in to the police, but they did not reveal his identity.
