The nationwide emergency brake to contain the corona pandemic will take effect from Saturday.

The Federal Council approved the new version of the Infection Protection Act on Thursday, which was then issued by Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

This clears the way for the measures, including the controversial night curfew.

In the Federal Council there was strong criticism of the federal government's actions.

The emergency brake is also being scrutinized by the Federal Constitutional Court.

The emergency brake measures apply in rural districts and urban districts, in which the seven-day incidence of 100 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants was for three days. On the basis of the incidences of the last three days, the municipalities assessed and published which rules apply to them the next day, announced the Federal Ministry of Health on its website. After the consultation in the Federal Council on Thursday, the new regulation will come into force on Friday. "The law will take effect for the first time on April 24th, 2021."

For this purpose, the vaccine from AstraZeneca is to be made available to doctors of all ages in Berlin with immediate effect.

It can therefore also be used by people under 60.

The medical practices no longer have to adhere to the prioritization according to the federal vaccination ordinance.

This was announced by the Senate Department for Health.

"In the current wave of infections, it is important to immunize as many people as possible as soon as possible - also with the educational-intensive AstraZeneca vaccine," said Health Senator Dilek Kalayci (SPD).
