RuPaul's drag race has been a worldwide success - a TV show where drag queens compete to become the next big star.

Today, the program has several Emmys on its shelf and has received several spin-off series.

But that has not always been the case for the drag culture.

Features were born out of the so-called ballroom culture that was born in New York in the early 20th century.
