[Explanation] On April 21, the State Council’s Joint Prevention and Control Mechanism held a press conference. At the meeting, many experts answered questions about the effectiveness of the new crown vaccine.

[Explanation] In response to the problem that some people believe that the effectiveness of the new crown vaccine is not 100%, and therefore it is not worth vaccinating, China's disease control expert Wang Huaqing said that the vaccine must be maintained at a high rate in order to make the vaccine play a greater role.

In fact, the role of our vaccines, as we have said before, is mainly that vaccines can prevent diseases, as well as prevent severe illness and prevent death.

In fact, from the results we have seen so far, whether it is in clinical trials or post-marketing observations, it has a better protective effect on severe cases.

Just now you asked what the protective effects of other vaccines are. In the past, most of the vaccines we used were 90%, some were 80%, and some were 70%.

But we let the vaccine play a bigger role, is to maintain its high vaccination rate, to consolidate this high vaccination rate, under such circumstances, the disease can be effectively controlled.

[Explanation] There have been media reports recently that among the population vaccinated against the new coronavirus in the United States, there are still 5,800 cases of infection with the new coronavirus and 74 deaths. Does this also show that the vaccine is not efficient?

In this regard, Shao Yiming, an expert in the scientific research team, explained:

What I want to remind you is that these 5,800 cases were generated from a population of more than 70 million people who were vaccinated, so the total incidence is less than 0.1%.

At present, most vaccines protect infection at the level of 50% to 80%. The most important thing is to protect hospitalization, severe illness and death. Generally, it is above 80%. This does not mean that the vaccine is not effective. Its effect is Equally good.

[Explanation] Recently, the Chilean Ministry of Health has also published a real-world study on the protective effect of Coxing's new crown vaccine. The results show that the preventive protection rate is 67% and the preventive mortality rate is 80%.

Shao Yiming believes that this data also shows that the current new crown vaccine is very effective.

This is currently the largest and most complete data. It is the research data generated during the national immunization campaign.

This data further shows that our current vaccine is very effective, not only can prevent infection, and more importantly, it can prevent hospitalization, severe illness and death very efficiently.

In this case, it can make our medical resources be well protected and not run on. Even if we are infected, we can recover quickly and then (reduce) deaths. We can save a lot of lives. This is very good result.

[Explanation] Finally, as to whether the vaccine needs to be refilled, Shao Yiming pointed out that this needs to be decided based on the collected data.

Because the overall time limit for our current vaccine use is about half a year, these data are in the process of collecting and analyzing, and various vaccine manufacturers, including the immunization planning departments of various countries, are studying these data.

After the first dose of the vaccine is given, when it needs to be strengthened, a scientific decision must be made based on data.

Of course, we may also be like other diseases spread by the respiratory tract, such as influenza, which need to be strengthened every year. This is awaiting analysis of our final data.
