Xinhua All Media+| 171 "Teaching Teams" Let "Broken Wing Angels" Go to School at Home

In order to allow children who cannot study on campus due to severe disabilities to receive compulsory education, Xinfeng County, Jiangxi Province organized 171 "teaching teams" to enter the village community and move "small classrooms" into the children's homes.

Liu Jiayi, who lives in Jiudu Village, Zhengping Town, Xinfeng County, was identified as severely disabled due to an accidental intracranial injury when she was 4 years old.

Since Jiayi was 6 years old, a "sending teaching team" composed of a special education teacher and two general education teachers knocked on her door.

At present, in Xinfeng County, there are 171 children with extremely severe and severe disabilities like Jiayi, and they have all enjoyed home delivery services.

This is due to the special education promotion plan launched by the Ministry of Education and other seven departments in 2014.

For school-age disabled children and adolescents who cannot go to school and need special care, we will send them home to provide quality education for disabled students.

In 2015, Xinfeng County was listed as a national special education reform experimental zone, and the county finance arranged 300,000 yuan of special education special fund support every year.

At the same time, in order to address the problems of severely disabled students living in scattered places and many living in remote villages, the local characteristics of ordinary schools are used to establish a diversified delivery model supported by special education and the participation of general education.

Sending teachers home not only gives disabled children a chance to enjoy compulsory education, but also knocks on the hearts of the children.

Liu Han of Gaoqiao Village, Tieshikou Town, had slow mental development due to cerebral palsy and was unable to take care of himself. With the help of six years of home-teaching teachers, Liu Han not only basically mastered elementary school cultural knowledge, but also improved his coordination skills.

Now, after each study, he has to take the teacher to the village, chatting about the daily routine.

He said that his biggest wish next semester is to be able to study in the county and make more friends.

Up to now, Xinfeng County has developed personalized teaching plans for 386 extremely severe and severely disabled children, sending more than 45,000 lessons to class.
