• Thermal tourism: The Royal Cloth Factory of Brihuega will become a four-star spa

  • Ciudad Real. 90 years of the Parador de Manzanares, the first roadside hostel in Spain

It all started, as it often does, during a trip.

The Galician Manuel Lema Sieira was visiting the Brazilian islands of Fernando de Noronha when he saw something that reminded him of his childhood: some chicken coops built in a tree to

avoid the attack of the wolf

.

He saw it clearly.

"This is perfect accommodation."

After ten years working in the world of rural hospitality, the Galician from Outes (A Coruña) decided that he wanted to build guest cabins in

the centenary horses of his land

.

Like those chicken coops, high up, but with design and comfort.

Their dream came true in

2012

at Finca Os Apriscos, where they built three mid-height cabins hidden between a thick thicket of Galician deciduous forest and typical wetland groves.

They were a success.

Since that day, this family is a reference in this world so evocative, so natural, so fairy tale of the little houses in the trees.

His business, Cabañitas en el Bosque, already has

more than thirty

of these wild lodgings.

Albeida cabins.

"All of our cabin projects have architecture awards," explains

Renata Lema,

Manuel's daughter and now in charge of the tourist complex.

The last has been the

2020 Architecture Prize

, awarded by the Higher Council of the Colleges of Architects of Spain for the Albeida Cabañas created, like all of them, by Salgado and Liñares Arquitectos.

Overlooking the mouth of the Tambre river, the Barbanza mountains and the source of the Muros Noia estuary, nine of these cabins are in the trees and five in old traditional stone and wood sheds.

They are the result of years of research.

"We have been improving and learning from the experience in each of our projects," says Renata.

While it is true that the resort's accommodations have evolved, the essence is the same. The houses are designed to

speak with nature

. "We always look for the right place to build them. It has to be a place with native trees, secluded, where people can really

disconnect without noise

, without traffic, without pollution. And then once we manage to find the right location, the most The important thing is to respect it. "

Renata explains that they are trying to deforest non-native species and, thus, we conserve those that do belong to this

estuary landscape

so characteristic of Galicia.

The other key is that the cabins are camouflaged in the environment.

"The design of the cabins is very beautiful, but

in spring and summer sometimes you don't see each other

. Because here people really come to enjoy nature."

Cabin with outdoor jacuzzi.

All the family business cabins are spread over seven different farms in the

concello

of Outes.

All within a radius of about 10 or 12 kilometers, but each with its own identity.

Some are

on the beach of Broña,

others more in the interior of the valley and

at the foot of the mountain

.

Those of Cabanas sen Barreiras are in the treetops but at the same time they are

adapted to all kinds of people

with some sensory dysfunction.

Sometimes the Jacuzzi is inside, others outside to contemplate the views ... No terrace looks out to another terrace to guarantee the privacy of the guests.

And if you don't want to cook, you just have to ask the local restaurant Ríos O Freixo for catering.

It is one of the novelties driven by the situation of the pandemic.
