When the spring season arrives every year, roses bloom in the city of Taif in western Saudi Arabia, turning the desert landscape in the Kingdom into a bright pink palette.

In April, these roses are harvested in order to extract the oil used to cleanse the outer walls of the Holy Kaaba in the holy city of Makkah, and this year's harvest falls during the holy month of Ramadan.
