In a rare case, an American woman was surprised when she conceived her second child before giving birth to the first

An American woman was surprised that she had her second child pregnant while undergoing ultrasound examinations to check on her first fetus, in which she was pregnant 3 months ago.

According to CNN, the mother named Rebecca Roberts (39 years) went with her husband, Reyes Weaver (43 years) to the hospital to check on the health of their fetus, who had tried to conceive for more than a year.

While Rebecca was undergoing an ultrasound, she was surprised by the doctor telling her that she was pregnant with another fetus in the ninth week, while she was carrying her first fetus 12 weeks ago.

"I got pregnant already," said Rebecca, "and for me this was totally insane ... because it wasn't supposed to happen."

Pregnancy during pregnancy is so rare that one of the studies conducted in 2008 found fewer than 10 cases recorded in the world.

Rebecca explained that the doctors told her that the babies were actually three weeks pregnant.

"I couldn't believe it happened to me," she added, laughing.

But it is a beautiful thing right.

I feel like I won the lottery. ”

Her husband, Rhys Weaver, said: “I was happy in the beginning to have a baby.

Now I feel much happier that we will only have two at once.

We now feel very fortunate. ”

Dr. Lilian Shapiro, a gynecologist in Atlanta, said that a case of fertilization and implantation of an egg in the uterus during pregnancy is extremely rare.

"Normally, once pregnancy begins, the uterus becomes an inappropriate place for a new egg to implant," she added.

This means that the second embryo must have been able to implant and grow at a stage in which we did not think it would be able to grow ”.

"We have not yet been able to know how two embryos can begin to develop at different times," she added.

This is amazing for us. ”

Rebecca took a dose of fertility drugs designed to stimulate ovulation before she conceived her first baby.

Doctors said that while this may be one of the causes of this rare event, it could be just a "medical miracle."

Rebecca gave birth to her two children, Noah (the eldest) and younger sister Rosley, by Caesarean section in September 2020, and they had to spend time in a neonatal intensive care unit, but they are now in good health.
