Believing that the health situation linked to the coronavirus epidemic does not allow them to prepare for their exams or to pass them in good conditions, BTS students have been stepping up for several weeks to demand their cancellation in favor of continuous assessment.

Petitions, a facebook page, the hashtag # BTScontrôlecontinu on Twitter and a collective "BTS in distress" ... In recent days, these students, very angry, have wanted to put pressure on the government so that the rules of the game their exams are completely revised.

A "hybrid" education

The higher technician's certificate (BTS) is prepared in two years after the baccalaureate.

Last year, confinement requires, the final tests of the second years were canceled in favor of continuous testing.

But this year, despite the epidemic, the Minister of Education Jean-Michel Blanquer said he wanted to maintain them.

A decision that gives rise to "a feeling of injustice", explains Laure, member of the "BTS in distress" collective.

"For more than a year, we have encountered difficulties in our education, with distance courses, which are not always easy to follow", continues the young woman of 34 years, in retraining, currently in BTS support of managerial action in the Deux-Sèvres.

BTS can be prepared in high schools but also in various training centers or private schools.

However, if in recent weeks, some students have experienced “hybrid” education, others have almost been deprived of face-to-face education since last March.

This is the case of Ridwane Jaddi, member of the collective, in BTS negotiation and digitalization of customer relations in Rochefort (Charente-Maritime) who, for a year, was only able to return to class for a few weeks last September.

"Because of the crisis we have accumulated a significant delay, we do not feel ready to take our exams," he says.

Lying to oral

As part of their training, BTS students must also validate work placements in order to acquire professional skills.

But in the context of the crisis, many students were unable to carry out these missions on which their oral examinations will focus, they recall.

“Our teachers encourage us to invent situations and therefore to lie during our oral exams!

», Is alarmed Ridwane Jaddi.

If the students fear the content of the exams, they are also worried about the conditions of passing exams.

"We are asked to go take our face-to-face exams, from May 10, in rooms that may be too small, where we will not be safe from a health point of view because they are too tight. compared to others, it is unacceptable ", annoys Laure, of the collective" BTS in distress ".

"Zero elimination"

Already, events would have been held without respect for health rules.

"Candidates were forced to go to early tests when they were in contact, otherwise they risked a zero eliminatory", points Frédéric Lefret, the president of the French Federation of schools of aesthetics and perfumery.

The video of the progress of an English test in early April at the Arcueil exams house, broadcast on social networks, also caused controversy.

We see candidates clustered in corridors, some of whom claim to have symptoms of Covid-19.

"In our schools, we can fully enforce a health protocol during practical work, which is not the case during exams", underlines Frédéric Lefret, who campaigns for continuous monitoring.

No catch-up session is yet planned to allow students positive for Covid-19 to catch up with their various tests, students are also worried.

The national high school movement (MNL), the FCPE (parents of students) and Solidaire-es demanded the validation of the BTS in continuous assessment but also "the assurance of the holding of a replacement session in June" for the students. positive for Covid-19 or case of contact during the tests initially planned.
