After a slight drop on Thursday, the number of Covid-19 patients in intensive care began to rise again on Friday, exceeding 5,750 patients, according to daily figures from Public Health France.

Among the 5,757 Covid patients in critical care services (sheave, intensive care, continuous monitoring), 498 have been admitted in the past 24 hours.

The pressure can still rise "for at least 15 days"

This closely watched indicator is thus still approaching the peak of the first wave (just over 7,000 patients at the start of April 2020).

The peak of the second wave (just over 4,900 patients in mid-November) had been exceeded at the end of March.

The Minister of Health Olivier Véran estimated Friday that the pressure on resuscitations would continue "still to rise for at least 15 days".

The pressure on hospital services in general is still very high with now 30,326 Covid patients in hospital (including 2,120 admissions in 24 hours), a figure down slightly compared to Thursday.

In 24 hours, 301 new deaths were recorded in hospitals, for a total of 98,395 deaths since the start of the epidemic (including 72,271 in hospitals).

More than 500,000 vaccinations this Friday

The number of new cases registered in 24 hours is 41,243.

The positivity rate, percentage of people infected among those who are tested, has increased to 7.8% over the last 7 days.

On the vaccination front, the Minister of Health welcomed on Twitter a new "record" beaten on Friday: "after 437,000 yesterday, 510,000 vaccinations were carried out today throughout France", he said. he indicated Friday evening, referring to the number of injections.

A total of 3.6 million people are now vaccinated, according to separate figures from the Directorate General of Health, while more than 10.5 million first doses have been injected.
