Every night, illuminated Fourvière dominates Lyon, partly plunged into darkness.

As a continuation of the annual global Earth Hour operation, the ecological municipality has decided to shut down its public buildings every night since April 3, with the exception of the basilica.

“As the Lyonnais no longer have the leisure to admire their city at night due to the curfew, all the buildings lit under the Lumière plan will be turned off.

This represents 370 sites highlighted since 1989 ”, indicates on its site the town hall directed by Grégory Doucet.

Closed to the public at night, the 22 parks and gardens are also subject to an interruption in nighttime lighting.

But, since the implementation of this measure last Saturday, the streets remain lit.

Savings and concrete action for the environment

For the town hall, this extinction should make it possible to generate financial and energy savings but also to raise public awareness of the need to preserve the environment through concrete actions.

“This will also be an opportunity to conduct an experiment with Enedis on monitoring the consumption of the light points concerned by the lighting plan”, adds the municipality, which is working, in conjunction with the services of the metropolis, on the creation of a framework. black.
