  • In Pays-de-la-Loire, 13.7% of the population received at least one injection.

  • A figure which is explained by the typology of the population, but which should increase this month thanks to the opening of several centers.

Three days after the opening of a large center at the Nantes exhibition center, with a capacity of 1,300 people per day, vaccination is gaining momentum in the Pays-de-la-Loire region.

According to the Regional Health Agency, the milestone of 500,000 people who received their first injection has also just been exceeded.

"It is beyond our objectives", welcomes Benoît James, director of the Covid-19 cell of the ARS.

If 95% of nursing home residents in the region are first vaccinated, this is also the case for 62% of those over 75 years old.

For the rest, there is still a way to go when only 13.7% of the global population has received at least one of the two famous bites, one of the lowest rates in France, just ahead of the Ile -of France.

“But there is an explanation, relating to the age pyramid, tempers the prefect Didier Martin.

Our region is demographically one of the youngest in France, so it has non-priority populations.

"Some regions had a greater intake of doses due to their epidemiological situation, which was not our case", adds Benoît James, from the ARS.

Vaccination centers open

To make up for the delay, several large vaccination centers, like the one in Nantes, are expected in Angers, Laval or Le Mans in the coming days or weeks.

In Loire-Atlantique, 16 vaccination centers, smaller (Vertou since Thursday, Saint-Nazaire next Monday…), are to open in April thanks to the doubling of the number of doses delivered this month.

Still, it is difficult to find an available niche in one of these sites, which all sell out quickly.

"It's a long-term race and not of speed," said the ARS.
