Which vaccine to choose?

Should you be vaccinated if you have already caught the virus?

It is difficult to know what to do or not to do in terms of vaccination against Covid-19.

So to raise the questions, doctor Jimmy Mohamed explains everything to you in the morning of Europe 1 Friday.

The coronavirus vaccination campaign is accelerating in France.

Do you want to protect yourself with one of the four approved vaccines (Pfizer / BioNtech, AstraZeneca, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson) but you still have some questions about injections?

Do not panic !

Jimmy Mohamed, doctor and health columnist on Europe 1 answers all your questions about vaccination.

Are there any diseases that contraindicate vaccination?

This question is recurrent in my patients who suffer from autoimmune diseases, who are immunocompromised and who have cancer.

But I assure you: whatever disease you have, you can and you should even get vaccinated.

If you have a serious illness, vaccination is absolutely not contraindicated.

On the contrary !

Protect yourself.

After how long is the vaccination effective?

If you are injected with any Covid vaccine, your immune system will create an army of antibodies.

But to create an army, it takes a little time.

And so, when you come out of the vaccinodrome or the vaccination center, I always tell the patients.

Think of yourself as unprotected!

It takes 3 to 4 weeks before having optimal effectiveness.

You managed to survive a year without coronavirus.

Maintain the barrier measures for at least a month.

Especially since the epidemic is on the rise.

The Moderna vaccine appears to be less successful than Pfizer's vaccine.

In some centers, there are still many appointments.

Is there an explanation?

Scientifically and medically, there is absolutely none.

The Moderna vaccine is a cousin of the Pfizer vaccine.

They use the same RNA technology, so it's also efficient and safe.

From a pedagogical point of view, maybe we weren't clear enough.

But, I repeat, these are two very effective vaccines.

And if you ever get the chance to get the vaccine, go for it.

Should we get vaccinated if we have had the Covid?

So yes.

The protection conferred by vaccination is greater than the protection conferred by disease.

What is it like to have had the Covid?

It is either having had once a positive PCR or a positive serology.

If you had symptoms last March, but you haven't had PCR or serology, consider yourself unprotected.

You have to have both doses.

On the other hand, if you have officially had the coronavirus, you will be offered a single dose of vaccination three months after infection.

This interval must be respected.

Can we eventually remove the mask once vaccinated?

It is the objective.

With the vaccination, you will not get the disease and even if you do, you are not going to die from it.

In addition, vaccination, especially with Pfizer and Moderna, helps prevent transmission of the virus.

So we will no longer be contagious and eventually it will be possible to mask.

So protect yourself: get vaccinated. "
