The Minister for Transport wished "through this gesture" to show his support after the drop in subsidies voted by the Poitiers city council on March 29 for two aero clubs in the city.

But Jean-Baptiste Djebbari's proposal to decorate two flying club presidents was greeted with dismay and irony Thursday by environmentalists and the PS.

This petty instrumentalisation of the Legion of Honor strikes Mr. Djebbari with dishonor.

Devoid of any sense of history and hoping to reach environmentalists, this Minister only degrades a decoration whose merit should be the only award criterion.

“This petty instrumentalisation of the Legion of Honor strikes Mr. Djebbari with dishonor.

Deprived of any sense of history and hoping to reach environmentalists, this minister is only degrading a decoration whose merit should be the only award criterion, ”thundered on Twitter the MEP EELV David Cormand.

"If it's just to make the controversy last, it's lamentable"

During the last municipal council, the ecological mayor LĂ©onore Moncond'huy said "to assume" the fact that "public money should no longer finance sports based on the consumption of exhaustible resources".

"The air, it's sad, but should no longer be part of children's dreams today," she added, drawing the wrath of many political leaders a few months before regional elections and a year of the presidential election.

“#Legiondhonneur for the presidents of #Poitiers flying clubs: I don't know the merits of these people.

If it's just to make the controversy last, then it's lamentable and disrespectful, ”criticized EELV boss Julien Bayou on Twitter, for whom“ LREM breaks everything, even the Legion of Honor.

LREM is La République en Miettes ”.

If it's just to make the controversy last, then it's lamentable and disrespectful.

And I say it as the grandson of an officer of the said Legion, Raoul Bayou

"#PalmeDuRidicule"

For the EELV regional candidate in Hauts-de-France Karima Delli, at the head of a union list of the left and environmentalists, “while women and men protect our lives every day by cleaning our trains, our buses, our subways or our planes without the Minister of Transport offering them the Legion of Honor, he dares to propose it to the presidents of aero-club!

#PalmeDuRidicule ”.

PS First Secretary Olivier Faure also quipped on Twitter by proposing to grant the Legion of Honor to all "the presidents of associations who have seen their subsidized jobs and the parliamentary reserve disappear because of government decisions".
