Thomas Chisholm, candidate for season 12 of “Top Chef” -

Marie ETCHEGOYEN / M6

  • M6 broadcast this Wednesday evening the ninth episode of season 12 of

    Top Chef

    .

  • Thomas Chisholm fell short at the end of the last chance event and did not qualify for the rest of the competition.

  • “I started with my plan B, which is generally a bad sign,” he recalls for

    20 Minutes.

If discretion had a first name in this twelfth season of

Top Chef

, it would probably be Thomas.

The 28-year-old candidate, first selected to join Michel Sarran's brigade, has demonstrated his effectiveness over the course of the competition.

In the second episode, he won the Gilles Goujon test and even managed to beat Philippe Etchebest and Paul Pairet in the fifth week.

However, his creativity did not allow him to qualify for the rest of the competition after a last chance around the cabbage.

He takes stock of his adventure with

20 Minutes

.

We could have seen you in

Top Chef

last year ...

I registered for season 11, I had started the castings and in the end, my application was not accepted.

Then, I was contacted again to participate in season 12. At the time, as a young cook, I said to myself why not try

Top Chef

USA, it is true that the level is not necessarily the best. even, from what I could see.

In the end, I told myself that as long as we do, we will try to do it in France.

You have played your second Last Chance event.

Did you think it was going to be even harder than the first time?

The last chances are a lot of pressure, you still have to prepare five plates in an hour, which is a lot of work to do.

I took them as if it was potentially the last time I was cooking at

Top Chef

.

Despite the stress, I tried to take as much pleasure as possible.

When you see the chefs making some negative comments about your dish, do you still believe it?

Honestly, when I saw the tasting I knew it was my turn, I smelled it.

I started the race very badly and starting from there, I felt it.

I had a little idea in mind of what I wanted to do and there were some hardware issues.

It was the first time that I had done a test where the barbecue was not lit, where the bain-marie was not filled.

These are two tools that I had planned to use to master my dish well and in fact, I have already started with my Plan B, which is generally a bad sign.

How did you experience your change of brigade?

At first, a little bit of disappointment because I got on really well with my partner Arnaud and Chef Sarran.

We had taken the time to get to know each other a little and to understand each other.

Mohamed, he's a guy that I really appreciate, I was still super happy to be able to cook with a guy like him.

Being in a new brigade doesn't change that much.

It is true that Michel Sarran had had time to understand me a little more than the conductor Hélène Darroze but in itself, I lived very well the two tests that I was able to do with her and I found her super caring.

At the time of your elimination, Michel Sarran said "It hurts me to see you go".

What does it do to you?

It's heartwarming, it's nice.

I arrived at

Top

Chef

with the idea of marking people, that they understand my universe more than winning the competition.

These are words that made me feel good, I was very happy to have the feedback I had after my elimination.

From what I've seen on the networks, I feel like people have had time to figure me out and that's really what I wanted so I'm pretty happy.

Today, what are your plans?

Currently, I have returned from time to time to help my former chef at the AT restaurant.

I also have small projects in progress but nothing specific at the moment.

I take the time to really think about it all and make the right choices.
