China News Service, Hong Kong, April 6 The electrical and navigation industry has always given the impression of being male-dominated, but time has changed, and women continue to join the industry.

A report published by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government News Network on the 6th interviewed two women working in the Maritime Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government.

They believe that the sailing industry has ideal prospects and gives people a sense of accomplishment, and that having clear goals allows people to strive forward.

Assistant Maritime Superintendent Xu Peiqi, currently mainly at the Vessel Navigation Monitoring Center, monitors the real-time traffic situation in Hong Kong waters, and provides navigation advice and safety information to ships.

She believes that the sailing industry has ideal prospects and a clear promotion ladder in the industry, which allows her to have clear goals and strive to move forward.

Xu Peiqi graduated from the Maritime Training College under the Vocational Training Council in 2007 and worked in a high-speed passenger ship company for about 10 years, as the first officer.

Recalling that when she took the Maritime Science and Technology Diploma course, Xu Peiqi said that her family had reservations about this.

"At the time, they all doubted whether I chose the wrong subject. After I have been working for more than ten years and gradually progressed during the period, they were relieved and supported." Xu Peiqi said that women are a little weaker than men in terms of physique, but they are mostly mindful at work. Be meticulous, and colleagues can complement each other.

She also said that she would always be vigilant at work to cope with emergencies and so on.

The other woman interviewed was Chen Xuanwei, who is now a female ship inspector.

It has been more than three years since she joined the Marine Department. Chen Xuanwei initially worked in the maintenance and support group, and was later transferred to the new ship group of the SAR government to assist different departments in purchasing new ships.

Before joining the Marine Department, Chen Xuanwei used to "ship" and worked in a shipyard, and now she often enters and exits the dock.

This kind of working environment may not be as comfortable as the office, but she enjoys it.

"I don't really like sitting in an office building and working, and I like walking around. I do it myself and get things done. When the ship returns safely, I feel a sense of success." Chen Xuanwei said.

According to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government News Network, women can be seen in different grades of the Marine Department.

In addition to the general grade staff, there are about 100 female employees, accounting for about 10% of all employees. The positions include Senior Marine Officer, Senior Assistant Shipping Officer, Ship Inspection Inspector, Assistant Marine Supervisor, Maritime Inspector, Ferry Assistant, etc.
