It was last year that the former film producer Harvey Weinstein, was sentenced to 23 years in prison by a New York court, for rape and sexual abuse of two women.

Weinstein now wants to appeal the verdict and demand a new trial.

His lawyers claim that several errors were made during the trial and that the jury that convicted him was not impartial.

Risk 140 years in prison

Weinsten has always claimed his innocence.

During the trial in New York last year, further charges were brought against him regarding four sexual offenses in Los Angeles.

If Weinstein is convicted in California, he risks up to 140 years in prison.

The accusations against Harvey Weinstein surfaced in October 2017 and became the starting shot for the #metoo movement.

Since then, about 80 women, including actors such as Angelina Jolie and Gwyneth Paltrow, have testified that they have been abused by the former film mogul.
