A study linking gingivitis and high blood pressure

This means that the "relationship" between gum disease and high blood pressure occurs long before the patient has high blood pressure.

The study included 250 adult participants suffering from severe gum disease, 250 participants who did not suffer from gum disease, and all participants were in good health and did not have any other chronic health complaints.

The researchers conducted extensive health checks on the participants, and found that a diagnosis of gum disease was associated with a doubling of the risk of developing high blood pressure compared to those with healthy gums.
