Thieves handcuff the former Adidas owner and his wife during the theft of their home

A brutal break-in at the home of the actor, minister, former football manager and former owner of Adidas, Bernard Tapie caused an uproar in France, and caused his wife Dominique to be hospitalized yesterday.

After four thieves, dressed in black with their faces covered, entered the house in a town outside Paris shortly before midnight Saturday.

According to reports, the robbers restrained Bernard and Dominic Tapie, as the couple suffered physical injuries in the accident, and Dominic was finally able to sound an alarm.

Reports stated that the thieves fled with many valuables.

The mayor of Combe-la-Ville, Jay Geoffroy, said the perpetrators used "extreme violence" against the couple, but that they were doing well in light of the circumstances.

BFM television reported that Bernard Tapie, 78, also said he was fine when asked.

Tappy is a hot figure in France, where he made headlines recently over a case involving the embezzlement of public funds.

He was acquitted of charges of fraud and embezzlement of state funds in 2019, although the prosecution appealed the verdict.

Appeals hearings are due to begin next month.

It was recently postponed due to the health of Tapie, who has cancer.
