The driver of a Dutch cargo ship did not let a Franconian police officer disembark on the Main near Großwallstadt for more than an hour.

The water police found several violations during a check on Friday, which is why an officer went on board, the Bavarian police said on Monday.

The skipper had behaved "uncooperatively" and did not want to show any documents.

Although the policeman forbade him to continue, the skipper drove on from the Wallstadt lock and took the policeman with him.

Only after 70 minutes did the ship stop at the next lock, where the police officer then disembarked.

The Dutchman now has to answer for deprivation of liberty and violations of shipping law.
