The number of classes closed due to cases of coronavirus has more than tripled in one week, rising to more than 11,000, announced the Ministry of National Education, a few hours before the schools close for several weeks.

Across the country, 11,272 classes (against 3,256 a week ago) are closed out of 528,400, or 2.1% of the total, according to an AFP calculation made from data communicated by the ministry in a press release. .

And 229 schools out of 61,500 keep doors closed (or 0.37% of the total), including 187 schools, 27 colleges and 15 high schools.

The academies most affected in terms of class closures are those of Versailles, Créteil, Nancy-Metz.

In detail, 28,738 students (against 21,193 a week ago) were infected out of a total of 12.4 million, or a rate of 0.23%.

Among staff, the number of people infected is up 0.24%, from 2,515 to 2,771.

A total of 244,944 tests carried out during the week

On the front of saliva tests in schools, out of 340,200 proposed, 244,944 were carried out and were found to be 0.45% positive.

The previous week, out of 320,285 tests offered, 200,404 had been performed and had been found to be 0.49% positive.

In an attempt to slow down the epidemic, President Emmanuel Macron announced on Wednesday that nurseries, schools, colleges and high schools would be closed on Friday evening and the spring school holidays unified throughout the territory from April 12.

The week of April 5 to 12, classes for schools, colleges and high schools will be at home, except for the children of caregivers and some other professions, as well as children with disabilities.

It will be followed by two weeks of vacation from the 12th, for all zones, before a return to school on the 26th in face-to-face in schools and in distance for one more week in colleges and high schools.
