Four police officers were injured on Thursday evening after a deployment in a Berlin park to implement the corona protective measures.

The officers checked in the park at Gleisdreieck because hundreds of people came together there, sometimes in large groups, without any distance, the police said on Friday.

They asked those concerned to adhere to the rules and leave the park, whereupon they sometimes reacted "very aggressively".

It was mainly young people and adolescents who insulted the police officers.

A group of 50 to 70 of them accompanied the officers to the Gleisdreieck train station.

On the way, a Dixi toilet was first knocked over.

Then one of the group sprayed four police officers with the contents of a fire extinguisher.

The officials reportedly suffered breathing difficulties and eye irritation.

In the train station, the man continued to spray, which is why bystanders had difficulty breathing and coughing.

He then escaped.

The police took the personal details of eleven teenagers and young men and confiscated a cell phone that is said to have been used to film the crime, as well as video recordings from the train station.

The injured officers were taken care of by rescue workers and were then able to continue their work, the message said.

It is now being investigated for serious breach of the peace, abuse of emergency aid, assault and insult.

Riots also in Brussels

Serious clashes between police officers and young people broke out on Thursday in the Belgian capital, Brussels.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo described the riots at an illegal mass meeting in a popular park in Brussels as "completely unacceptable".

In a statement on Twitter on Friday, he announced support for injured police officers.

As the Belga news agency reported on Thursday evening, citing a police spokesman, at least 26 officers were injured during the operation in the park not far from the city center.

Water cannons, mounted policemen and police dogs were used.

According to estimates by the security forces, around 1500 to 2000 people gathered in the Bois de la Cambre, where they violated distance and hygiene rules.

According to Belga, a free music event had been called on the Internet before the mass crowd.

Another celebration in the park had been announced for Friday evening.

Pictures from the scene showed police officers covered in blood, at least one burning barricade and obviously drunk teenagers and young adults.

On a video that was published by the public broadcaster RTBF, a request from the police to break up the meeting could be heard - the riots apparently only broke out after the loudspeaker announcement.
